The second in the series of Campus Conversation discussions were held on Thursday, May 19 and Monday, May 23. The presentation featured the topic, “Transformation through Innovative Business Practices and Strategic Procurement.”

The hour-long conversation shared ideas and offer opportunities for the campus community to be engaged in the transformation of the University. Several Transformation Teams have been formed to identify at least $45 million in cost savings and revenue generation over the next five years.

Dan Durbin, senior associate vice president for finance, and Dave Beaver, assistant vice president for procurement, contracting and payment services discussed ways the University can transform its business processes, with an emphasis on how goods and services are procured with more focus on strategic procurement.They shared ideas on:

  • how we simplify and standardize business functions
  • how we reduce the cost of procuring goods and services
  • how we curtail spending while improving services and quality
  • how taking a more strategic approach toward the procurement of goods and services will help WVU realize significant savings

Mountaineer Marketplace, WVU’s new eCommerce tool, was also discussed. The new tool will help WVU realize savings by allowing users to shop online and compare prices between some of the University’s most frequently used suppliers.
